The following novels and one short story are all related and can all be blamed on my first foray into National Novel Writing Month.
Shaman A talented young pilot with a bad attitude, a five-year-old daughter and a deadly secret finds himself caught up in political intrigue as two greedy senators try to use him and his friends as pawns in their game of turning the Republic into an Empire. (written for NaNoWriMo 2002)
Starbursts and Shadows: the Obligatory Derelict Ship Episode Two and a half years later, Talon and his crew find themselves stranded on Junket, a planet Talon said he'd never return to, after an attack by pirates weilding magic weapons renders Blue Ava's Angel's engines useless. In the city of Crossgrove, Talon picks up an engineer who brings with him a deadly adversary. Also along for the ride is a mysterious man named Rune who knows more about the three stars than he wants to tell them.
A Whisper in the Ghost This short story takes place some time between the second and third novels. Talon finds himself in a strange virtual world and discovers new applications of his powers.

The Way of the Samurai Star Two thieves, neither of whom are all they appear to be, are contracted to steal a rare and powerful artifact, but the man who has hired them will only misuse that power. When they fail to return with the artifact, the whole universe becomes a hunting ground. Will they be able return the artifact to its rightful owner? Will they survive the hunt and evade the authorities? Will they find the answers to questions that have plagued them both for years? Set foot on the path with them and learn.
