Miscellaneous Fiction

These stories don't belong anywhere else. There's probably a very good reason for that.

Lanterns and Stones A very brief tale about a couple of murderers. Or something like that.

Atlas Sneezed Atlas, Dionysus and Athena try to come up with a way to deal with Atlas's itches.

Broken Circle Betrayal and abandonment, loosely based on characters from a game of Exalted.

Bar Code Talon Konstantine transports a slave to her new owner.

(untitled) A scary little non-romance. part two

Where Does the Sky End? I wrote this for an assignment in my ninth grade English class. Mrs. Houck gave me an A+ and called it "a neat, King-like story." Classmates called me Mrs. King for a while after Mrs. Houck read the story outloud to the class.

Children of the Fire The terribly brief, and pretty terrible, origin story of Ryan Phoenix.

Angels Nikolai Afinogenov, former character for a game of Castle Falkenstein, gets somewhat reinvented as a psychic star angel and the distant, distant ancestor of Nick Falkenberg (The Way of the Samurai Star).

Another Nail in the Coffin Background story for Nails Lagard, who was supposed to have shown up in The Mask of Kaen. Unfortunately, the series stalled before I got to Nails. He would have been fun to write.

Fallen Hero Accidentally two stories in one, and neither of them are very good. Hayden Knight of Three Furies Investigations deals with a dead comic book hero and Sky's mysterious resurrection.

(untitled) Background for Caligula, an antagonist from The Mask of Kaen. He would have been fun to write, too. For his brief appearance in the last completed story of the series, he was a lot of fun.

Escape from Mingo Creek Inspired by events surrounding a friend's move, a tale of war and sacrifice. part two

(untitled) A piece of crappy, angsty poetry.

O'Malley's Bar Reprise Sequel to the song by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Noir News Um … I really don't know what to say about this one.

It's Only Magic 'til You Know the Trick Shiva finds something rather foreboding in the laundry room of his dorm.

Wormwood Again, I have no idea what to say here.

Seance/Tell No Tales Two stories in one post. Seance — a spirit's eye view of what goes on at a seance. Tell No Tales — A dead woman waits for justice.

Lucky Jack Runner doesn't follow the rules and still somehow manages to get the job done.

(untitled)/Snow Another two-fer! The first part is the original sketch that became A Demon in My View. Snow is a brief sketch of Julian Cross's grief after Jack's death.

Bad Coffee Blues The devil comes to Pale looking for a good cup of coffee. Takes place after a series of stories I haven't yet completed and far in the future.

Holocaust Inspired by the gaming supplement Dictionary of Mu, a sorcerer calls up a demon, and things get … well, nasty.

Altoids Town Kelila meets a nice boy at the library. Unfortunately, he's dead. part two, part three, part four *nb — this story is still in progress.

Eden Crawling Background work for NaNoWriMo 2005; from Casidhe's point of view.

Gravity More of the above; from Ethan's point of view.

Desert Casidhe and Ethan share grief, drugs and bodily fluids.

Harmonics Casidhe tries to explain his gift to someone who has the same gift but wishes he didn't.

? Casidhe lets a journalist run a fabricated interview.

Wings More prewriting for Pale; this snippet was intended to be part of the novel but didn't make it in. Here, Casidhe runs to Ethan after his wings have been ripped off his back.

The Rendezvous Casidhe's affair with journalist Kennedy Beaumont comes to a somewhat disturbing end.

Power Ethan rambles senselessly about his empathic ability.

Rain Casidhe convinces a lover to have sex out in the rain.

Swan Song Casidhe's last performance from Ethan's point of view. Again, would have been part of the novel had I not drastically changed things when I got around to writing it.

Assault A young Casidhe tries to sell his body on the streets and ends up taking refuge with a friend.

Descent into Shadow Country Casidhe, all gooey in love with his former professor, has a horrifying dream about where he really came from.

Brothers in Arms: In Times of War This was supposed to be a series, but I didn't go much further than about a page in to the second story before I lost interest. Based on World of Warcraft characters. Ravid is sent to a swampy outpost to keep an eye on his brother who's been acting suspiciously.

The Lesson of Hearts Brief fic starring my character from a stalled game of Prime Time Adventures. We called our show Exiles. Exiles are these mysterious alien/demon creatures attempting to take refuge in the US in the 1970s. Let's just say it's not exactly a welcoming environment. Shannon is half Irish, half Exile. This story was inspired in part by the Bright Eyes song "Amy in the White Coat."

The Lesson of Fists Young Shannon gets a lesson in problem solving.

Fresh Hearts Jack Runner hates Valentine's Day and does his best to avoid the day's trapping. His secret admirer, however, has other plans. part two

The Prince Cameron Black skips school and meets an urban legend, who turns out to be much more than even the legends say. Some backstory work for the still untitled steampunk stuff I've been working on.

Patient Zero Plague hates his job. Written for a writers' group assignment and inspired by me being sick all week.

NSFW: the RT Erotic Assignment Writers' group assignment. It turned out to be a much more complex story than I could get in the 600 word limit. The characters are from The Cost of Freedom, which is going to be my NaNoWriMo project for 2008.
